Meet Ms. Hutcheson

Hello!  I'm super excited to be at Commerce Middle School.  I have a background in Media and Technology and believe that when Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math (STREAM) are combined,  truly transformative learning takes place. I believe that if we, as teachers and leaders, foster a  love of reading and guide students to create and innovate, anything is possible.

The CCMS library/Media Center is the "hub" of the school-The Learning Commons.  We serve students, parents, admin, teachers, and our community in many ways.  I want students to enjoy reading and to become lifelong readers and learners.
Some topics and methods I use at different times:
-Exploring interests-genre studies, book tastings, video book reports, monthly celebrations
-Novel Engineering-critical thinking to read for problems and design solutions
-Design Thinking Activities
-Coaching students to ask good questions to build curiosity
-Collaborating with teachers to integrate effective resources and technology into lessons

Personally, I love photography, riding horses, gardening, searching for wildflowers, playing tennis,  hiking and jeeping in the North Georgia Mountains.
I attended UGA, North Georgia College and Troy State University.  I am on the Board of the Jazz Association on Macon, Steering Committee for the Georgia Educational Technology Conference and was District Chair for the Fulton Student Technology Competition.  I love teaching and learning.
